    Hi Lesley

It sounds like he might be in need of the Getting Past Auto workshop, do you have a link to any of his work online? If I can see how he shoots I might be able to advise better on what level of tuition he needs.

    Hi

No there is no massive disadvantage, sometimes the viewfinder is a better on a DSLR especially in low light studio set-ups but thats all I can think off.

As long as you purchased the sony hot shoe adapter then you would also be able to do the studio flash photography workshops.

Thanks Martin, so you think there’s no massive disadvantage going for a hybrid over a DSLR? And I could still do the various courses with a Sony NEX?

  5. Martin says:

    Hi Celia

I have used the Sony NEX-5 and was surprised by the good quality of the results. The size makes a great and easy to carry travel camera. The only downside I would know of in comparison to a DSLR is that there may not be that many accessories and lenses available on the market, also I noticed the cost of lenses is very expensive in comparison to Canon and Nikon.

I would however check out reviews at DPReview.com . There is a review on there for the NEX-5 – http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonynex5n/

Sony are not the only manufacturer that makes these small interchangeable lens cameras, Olympus makes the pen range, Panasonic make a lumix GF range plus Pentax and Nikon are both releasing similar cameras.

    I hope this helps?

I’m looking to do the beginners course in the next few months bur first am looking at buying a camera. I like the Sony NEX-5 and NEX-7 because they are compact and I’m therefore more likely to take it more places – are these good cameras? What are the disadvantages vs a DSLR?

    Hi Shazia

Thanks for contacting us, please send through a link to an on-line gallery so that we can see examples of your photography work. I would suggest starting with a beginners workshop in photography to help you master the settings, use and basic of your camera and photography. The Getting Past Auto course is a great course for you to start with.

    Regards

    Dear Sir/Madam,
This is Shazia Chowdhury. I have completed my Undergrad in Regents Business School, Regents College. My pathway was Global Marketing Management. I have visited your website, and was wondering which course I could join. I wanted to do a course in January 2012. I have basic knowledge in Photography, never took any course before, but always had the passion to capture moments. If you want, I can send you some of the pictures, I have captured. I have a little knowledge in photoshopping, and know some basic features of the camera. I have a Cannon SLR, which keeps me company when I’m outdoor and shooting. Do let me know, what I could do. I am eagerly waiting for your reply.
    Thanking you,
    Shazia Chowdhury.

    Hi Tony

The Panasonic G2 is fine for this workshop as it has full manual exposure mode.
