Camera Requirements:
You will need an SLR camera to part take in this course, arrangements can be made to hire cameras if you don’t own one, please ask when booking. If you have a Compact, Hybrid or Bridge camera you can still take part in this course, however your camera will not have all the functions available to SLR owners, we guarantee to show how to get fantastic pictures with all types of cameras.
Sony Alpha Users
Please bring along a hot shoe adaptor to connect your cameras to the studio flash sync cable, or bring along a Sony flash gun that has manual control. All other manufactures cameras do not need this.
Lens Choice
You will need a lens that will allow you to crop to head and shoulders, we recommend a lens in the focal length of 70-200mm for this. You will also be capturing half length and full length poses for this you would need a 24-70mm (Full frame) or 18-55mm (APS size) lens.
Additional Equipment
If you have a flash meter, wireless flash triggering system or speed light flash gun please bring these along with you. We can set up your speed light to trigger the studio lights.

Hi Olga
The portrait workshop will teach you lighting and how to work with flash manually. The lights we use are Bowen Espirits, they are not that big in my opinion. If you are setting up a mobile studio I imagine you will need lighting that is battery operated? If so then you could be looking at on camera flash-guns (speed-lights). These kind of flashes are light weight and portable but can be tricky to set up. The other option is continuous lighting but this will drain a battery very fast.
If you give me a better idea of what and whom your mobile studio will be photographing I can give you a better idea whether or not the course will be suitable for you.
There are already 3-4 people booked on for the 10th September 2011.

Hi,
I’m interested in your lighting workshop on 10th of september. Could you tell me what kind of flashes you’re using. I’m setting up a mobile photography business with small flashes, I was wondering if this course is suitable for me as i won’t be able to use big lights.
Also, could you tell how many people are already booked for that date?
best wishes,
Olga
Hi Maria
The Canon G11 is capable of being used for studio flash lighting as long as you have a hot-shoe to pc connector adapter or a speed light flash gun (430-580). I am not sure you will need the lens adapter as the standard lens should be sufficient. I hope this is enough info.
Regards
Martin
Hello,
I use a Canon G11 and want to know if this is compatible with a studio lighting kit, it has a hot shoe and there are options to change the lense size if you get an adapter. I want to start learning studio photography and ideally with this camera, could you please advice and I may well attend your course!
Thanks
Hi Nirupam
Sorry the meetup.com date is wrong, we changed dates around at the begging on 2011 and the meetup.com dates got confused. The portrait workshop is taking place on Sat 9th April and we have 3 places still available on the workshop to book please either visit: http://londonphotographycourses.co.uk/pro-studio-lighting/ or call 020 7241 2816 and we can take your booking over the phone.

Martin
Hi,
Having seen the course information for the Portrait Photography course at meetup.com, I was wondering if the course date is on 2nd April as posted in the meetup.com page or 9th April. I am interested in attending this course and would like to know if there are places left for this course.
Best regards,
Nirupam
Hi Hayley
We use 2-3 different models and we try to rotate them so that we have a different model each weekend.
Martin
Hi, I would like to ask if the same model is used for this course and the advanced course?
Thanks Martin
I certainly will be attending the advanced course, however not this Saturday though, mainly because I need to digest the wealth of information and digest it, and then practice.
Once I have done this I will book the course and certainly recommend it to others.
Let me know the email address to send the shots.
Hi Alan
Thank you for your kind comments, I am glad to hear you had a great time on the course, you will have to send us some of your photos you took on the course.
I will send you out a PDF of the course notes later today. We have the follow on course (Advanced Fashion and Beauty) this coming Saturday with studio model Kristina, we still have places if you wish to attend.
Happy Snapping
Martin Gomez
Just wanted to say thanks for a great day on Saturday. I learned a great deal about the technical aspects of photography. Information and advice that I have never been given whilst attending other courses.
However I did manage to leave my course handout at the studio as well as my pen so if you can send me a copy of the notes that would be appreciated. You can keep the pen it is not as important as the handout..
Once again thanks for an excellent course.
Regards
Alan
Hi Alan
Ye we do have places still available on our next course on Sat 6th March. To secure your place please either book throught paypal or call the studio on 020 7241 2816.
Martin
Hi, I am an amateur photographer looking to improve, I have done a couple os courses but want to vary my technique to find what suits me best. Do you have any places available for the next Studio Flash course?
Hi Hellen
Yes there are spaces still available on the 20th Feb 2010. The cost of attending the course is £175, you do need to pay in order to attend.
Your Nikon D3000 is fine for the course, but since you are new to photography the advanced course may be a bit far ahead for you. People that attend the advanced course will need to have had some studio experience before coming and understand depth of field, aperture and light readings.
I would recommend the introductory course for people who are new to photography. We have an introductory course happening this Sat 6th Feb and there are still places available.
Yes you are allowed to keep and use all photo for your own personal (non commercial) use.
I hope this has anwsered your questions if not please don’t hesitate to ask me more.

Martin
Hi there, Are there any spaces available for the Lighting & Fashion course on 20 Feb 2010? If so, how much deposit do I need to pay to book a place?
Also, I am very new to Photography and I was planning to use a Nikon D3000 + 18-55mmVR, is this ok?
Would I be allowed to keep the photos to help to build my portfolio?
Regards
Hellen
I was lucky to enough to work with one of the models – Kristina and I can assure anyone taking photos of her is pure pleasure since her professionalism make it so much easier to take this one good shot!
Hi Fabio
We have had people who cant understand a word of english come on the course. The course is designed to teach you through doing, meaning you actually help set up the lights and camera. We don’t just lecture to you, this is learning by doing.
Your camera is more than fine for this course, we still have 2 places left on the course and yes you can turn up this Saturday and pay cash.
Martin
Hi Thomas,

hi
I would like to know more informations about the hours and the dates.
thanks
Hi Esther,
Bring along you canon lenses, you can of course use our portrait lens on the day.
if you own a speed light please bring it with you.
see you on the day
Tony
Hi,
Will you be providing a selection of lenses to work with or are we required to bring our own? The only portrait lens I have is the Tamron 70-300 which isn’t the best quality lens, a canon standard kit lens 18-55, and a 50mm. Will this be sufficient?
Cheers
We recommend DSLR as they are nearer to what a Pro Studio Photographer would use, they are also more likely to have a hot-shoe or PC socket to connect to studio flash. If you can control the ISO, shutter and aperture on your bridge camera. Then yes you can use it on a studio lighting course.
Which camera make and model is it?
Hi,
I’m interested in your lighting course – I’m wondering why I need to use a SLR, I have a p&s and bridge digicam that have full manual modes.
I’m looking to take better portrait photos.
Cheers
