    Hi,
I’m interested in your lighting course – I’m wondering why I need to use a SLR, I have a p&s and bridge digicam that have full manual modes.

I’m looking to take better portrait photos.

    Cheers

We recommend DSLR as they are nearer to what a Pro Studio Photographer would use, they are also more likely to have a hot-shoe or PC socket to connect to studio flash. If you can control the ISO, shutter and aperture on your bridge camera. Then yes you can use it on a studio lighting course.

Which camera make and model is it?

    Hi,

Will you be providing a selection of lenses to work with or are we required to bring our own? The only portrait lens I have is the Tamron 70-300 which isn’t the best quality lens, a canon standard kit lens 18-55, and a 50mm. Will this be sufficient?

    Cheers

  • Martin Gomez (author) said:

    Hi Esther,
Bring along you canon lenses, you can of course use our portrait lens on the day.
if you own a speed light please bring it with you.
    see you on the day

    Hi Fabio

We have had people who cant understand a word of english come on the course. The course is designed to teach you through doing, meaning you actually help set up the lights and camera. We don’t just lecture to you, this is learning by doing.

Your camera is more than fine for this course, we still have 2 places left on the course and yes you can turn up this Saturday and pay cash.

Hi there, Are there any spaces available for the Lighting & Fashion course on 20 Feb 2010? If so, how much deposit do I need to pay to book a place?
Also, I am very new to Photography and I was planning to use a Nikon D3000 + 18-55mmVR, is this ok?
Would I be allowed to keep the photos to help to build my portfolio?

    Regards

    Hellen

  • Martin (author) said:

    Hi Hellen

Yes there are spaces still available on the 20th Feb 2010. The cost of attending the course is £175, you do need to pay in order to attend.

Your Nikon D3000 is fine for the course, but since you are new to photography the advanced course may be a bit far ahead for you. People that attend the advanced course will need to have had some studio experience before coming and understand depth of field, aperture and light readings.

I would recommend the introductory course for people who are new to photography. We have an introductory course happening this Sat 6th Feb and there are still places available.

Yes you are allowed to keep and use all photo for your own personal (non commercial) use.

I hope this has anwsered your questions if not please don’t hesitate to ask me more.

    Regards
    Martin

Just wanted to say thanks for a great day on Saturday. I learned a great deal about the technical aspects of photography. Information and advice that I have never been given whilst attending other courses.

However I did manage to leave my course handout at the studio as well as my pen so if you can send me a copy of the notes that would be appreciated. You can keep the pen it is not as important as the handout..

Once again thanks for an excellent course.

    Regards

    Alan

    Hi Alan

Thank you for your kind comments, I am glad to hear you had a great time on the course, you will have to send us some of your photos you took on the course.

I will send you out a PDF of the course notes later today. We have the follow on course (Advanced Fashion and Beauty) this coming Saturday with studio model Kristina, we still have places if you wish to attend.

    Happy Snapping

    Martin Gomez

  • Alan West said:

    Thanks Martin

I certainly will be attending the advanced course, however not this Saturday though, mainly because I need to digest the wealth of information and digest it, and then practice.

Once I have done this I will book the course and certainly recommend it to others.

Let me know the email address to send the shots.

  • Hayley said:

Hi, I would like to ask if the same model is used for this course and the advanced course?

  • Martin (author) said:

    Hi Hayley

We use 2-3 different models and we try to rotate them so that we have a different model each weekend.
