Equipment questions:
Q. What kind of camera is best for the courses?
A. An SLR (single lens reflex) camera is best for the studio courses. An SLR camera is identifiable from its ability to detach and change lenses. If you are still unsure about your camera please contact us with camera make and model and we can tell you what type of camera you own. If you do not own a SLR we can arrange for hire for you. You can however attend the ‘Getting Past Auto Course’ if you own a Compact, Hybrid or Bridge Camera all is explained in the ‘Getting Past Auto’ page on this site.
Q. Do I need a film or digital camera?
A. You can use film or digital. The obvious advantage of digital is you get to see your results instantly.

A. We can arrange hire of a camera and lens for you. Please contact us in advance of you coming on the course.
Q. What lenses are best for studio courses?
A. For photographing people we recommend that you use a telephoto lens. A telephoto lens is anything longer than 70mm. The ideal lens range for people attending a studio course is 24mm-70mm and 70mm-200mm. For camera courses you can bring any an all of your lenses.
If you don’t own these lenses we can arrange hire for you.
Q. What other equipment do I bring to the studio courses?
A. Well first please don’t forget your camera and suitable lens. Also bring enough memory cards, and a spare battery or battery charger. The last thing you want is to run out of charge.
Bring your camera manual, In case you have a camera we are unfamiliar with or if an error message pops up in camera.
Q. Can I use the photos I take on the studio courses?
A. You are permitted to use the photos you take of the studio model for personal portfolio use only. You can not sell the photos to a third party or stock library unless payment and written permission in the form of a model release has been agreed and signed by the model.

Hi Kathryn
We normally have 10 people max on this workshop. Although this weekend we only have 5 people coming, so if you were to join it wouldnt be a large class.
Martin
Hi there
I’m looking at doing the ‘gettin past auto’ course this Saturday but just wondering how many people you limited per class?
Thanks
Hi Natalie
The maximum amount of people on the course is 8. There will be a bit of waiting on the workshops to take a photo, but we make sure everyone has equal time.
Regards
Martin
Hello
These courses look very interesting; what is the maximum number of people you have on each course? I like participating in a group, but I find the more people in the group, the more time you spend standing around not taking photos!
Thanks
Natalie
Sorry I don’t understand are you looking to join a photography workshop or are you looking for a job?
Martin

Hi Rebecca
We have all our newest flash guns hired out on that weekend, we only have an old speedlight available that isnt great. I can recommend you a couple of places to hire from. The first is Calumet on Drummond Street Euston and the second is an online company called Camerent they can hire and deliver to you.
Regards
Martin
Hi
I’m potentially interested in the Flash Photography workshop on 23rd April. I have completed beginner and intermediate digital photography courses with my Canon 400. However I do not own a flash gun. Can you advise if you can loan/hire one on my behalf for this course and if so what the additional cost would be?
Kind regards,
Rebecca
Hi Ally
The “Getting Past Auto” camera course will refresh your knowledge of photography, exposure, focusing, depth of field and would cover all the (manual and semi auto) functions on the Canon EOS 450D.
Regards
Martin
Hi I am interested in doing your camera course. I have done a bit of photography before but need a bit of a brush up on skills. I would also like to learn the full features of my Eos 450d. Just wondering if this course covers all of the above or if there is another one you would recommend.
Many thanks
Ally
